Frequently asked Competition Team questions

How much will it cost?

Last year (2006) the cheapest was $670 and the most was $1240.

This includes costumes, rehearsal fees, choreography fees, and entry fees.

This does not include Hotel rooms, food, and souvenirs.

Last year we did not do nationals. I hope we do Nationals this year. That will be more Money.

Where will we go?

Usually Baton Rouge and Memphis.

You are welcome to stay with us but you are not required to. If you can get a better deal on a hotel please include me.

Nationals

Will depend on how well we dance and how well we behave as a team.

I don’t know were we will go. I would like to go someplace new and fun.

Part will depend on the dates.

Age

I started my son Eddie at 5 and Molleigh at 7.

I wish I had started her earlier.

They take them younger and we could do that. They must have at least one year of dance.

All of mine that did Nutcracker, Polichinell and Act II Angels, are ready.

Solo’s

Every one wants a solo.

I don’t think most dancers are soloist.

Some teachers only teach solos. I would prefer not to do many solos.

It defiantly helps the child improve but the problem seems to be dealing with not scoring high, or not as high as our friends. I really feel we go to learn, not to win. I have definitely learned a lot about dance and a lot about people.

Rehearsal time

Each dance will practice at least an hour a week

More when we are first setting the dance. More right before we go to competition.

It will depend on how they are doing. Plan on Saturday’s younger earlier older later.

If you do a solo I will work with you on when we rehearse, but all dances must rehearse with me at least once a week.

Sunday not before 1:00 hopefully not before 2:00

I have to take Molleigh to Monroe on Sundays so we probably will not rehearse much on Sundays. I do not get her schedule till Wednesday night to know if I have Sunday free or not. I will not let your child go unprepared to get my child to Monroe.

Last year people complained that I spent too much time on Molleigh and neglected their children. This is not true; in fact it is probably just the opposite.

Missed practices

This is a commitment to a team

If you let me know now when you will not be here I will try to work around you.

I know some families already have trips planned. Weddings and family functions.

I want as many of you as I can get so I will try and work around conflicts, but not if they come up at the last minute.  And not if I feel like it will affect the group as a whole.

Not so much last year, but in the past, people have really taken advantage of this.

This is a commitment. I think we need to teach our children about commitment, and about making choices. I don’t think they can do everything.

When

I am working on a schedule now.

We will start rehearsals next week.

We will do 3 regionals between now and the first of May,

and maybe one National during the summer.

I will let you know some exact dates as soon as we find out who made the Miss Mississippi pageant dancers, and which show. What that rehearsal schedule looks like.

Not Necessarily Competition Related

Summer camp is very important for all students whether they are on the competition team or not. If you plan to go to good ballet camp you have to audition and these auditions are coming up. I would go ahead and audition. The experience is worth it even if you are not going.

None of my Jr high kids tried out for the pageant, none of them auditioned for ABT.

Please parents don’t think they are older and will get the information home.

Some one picked the papers up off the table.

Every child I asked said they did not know anything about anything.

Please always check the bulletin board.

Audition for Joffery are this weekend

Saturday in Jackson and Sunday in Monroe

Dance Magazine January issue is full of summer camps
