Summer Dance
Summer dance is so very important in maintaining the level of dance that has been achieved through such hard work all year long. The present level of technique and fitness will drop during the summer months with out some type of training. If you are out of training for two months it will take you four months to reach your current level to be able to begin to improve.
I strongly recommend that all acrobatic students (who can do a backbend and come up by themselves) take regular summer acrobatic classes. Around the age of eleven the back starts to stiffen and it becomes extremely difficult for students who do not practice year round.
Pointe class is also encouraged to work all year. Every one knows how difficult Pointe work is. This year we will have Int. and Adv. Pointe at the end of regular Ballet classes. Beginner Pointe will again be mandatory for those students moving from pre-toe into beg-Pointe. Pointe shoes will be required.
Jazz class will be offered for all students 10 & older. Ballet class will be offered for all intermediate (currently in my 5th grade and older class) and advanced students. Tap will not be offered in a regular class.
All students should consider a dance camp.
Mississippi Metropolitan Dance Academy in Brandon offers a wonderful camp. They accept young students. Contact Jennifer Beasley at 601-853-4508. Twin City Ballet also offers an excellent Dance workshop for Students 10 and older. It will be held July 19th -July 30th. Last year people did not send in their information by the deadline and classes were full, so please send in your information early. Missy Craine in Monroe will be having a new workshop July 5th – July 16th. The Mississippi Summer Dance Intensive will be here in Vicksburg June 7th-11th (662-801-0918). Instructors are Casey Franco, Chesley Sadler Lambiotte, and April Cook. Xpress in Madison has a summer Camp June 28th-July 2, July 19th – July 23, and a mini Camp July 5th – July 8th, guest teacher from LA (853-0826)
Toney Neumann will teach intermediate classes July19th - July 22th at my studio.
My competition team (and any one interested in participating with our team) is strongly encouraged to attend at least one workshop other than mine.
